1997 - British Formula 3 - Summary - November 24th 1997

Nicolas Minassian finished as runner up in the British Formula 3 Championship in 1997. Driving the Promatecme Renault Dallara F397, the Frenchman’s second season in the ultra-competitive series saw him secure seven wins, six pole positions and five fastest laps.

Despite this, the title went to Northern Ireland rival Johnny Kane. Minassian missed out on the title by 16 championship points, with his own tally standing at 183 points. After a win in round two of the championship at Silverstone, it was the disqualification from the third round of the championship at Thruxton, for an incident on the slow-down lap, that resulted in the Marseilles-born driver missing rounds four and five at Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

Despite this major setback in his championship quest, Minassian bounced straight back on his return with victory in round six of the championship at Croft, with additional victories coming at Pembrey, Donington, Snetterton, Silverstone and the season finale at Thruxton. The McLaren F3000 Junior team beckoned for 1998.
