Two months after the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours, Team Peugeot Total was eager to pull off a win in Germany where its two 908 HDi FAPs both qualified on the front row of the grid for today's race. The two crews produced a perfect team effort to provide the French carmaker with its first one-two finish of the season, just as they had done at the Nürburgring this time last year. The result also hands Peugeot and its crews the provisional lead in both championships.

The fourth round of the 2008 Le Mans Series has seen Peugeot Sport secure its fourth pole position of the season after an assertive run during the qualifying session for Sunday's Nürburgring 1,000km gave the team control over the front row of the grid. Marc Gené narrowly secured top spot on the grid with his 908 HDi FAP by a margin of just two hundredths of a second over his team-mate Pedro Lamy.

In addition to its bid to defend its Le Mans Series title, Peugeot Sport is already focusing its resources on its preparations for the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours. To this end, an entry for October’s Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta has been added to the 908 HDi FAP’s programme.

The return of Le Mans Series action will see the familiar LMS line-ups reform in their respective 908 HDi FAPs, namely Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene, who currently top the Drivers’ standings with a score of two wins (Barcelona, Spa), plus Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin who follow in fourth place with one victory on their card (Monza), but also one retirement (Spa).

What an amazing finale to an absolutely thrilling weekend! When rain started to fall once more over the French circuit as the race entered its final hour, the situation at the top of the leaderboard was thrown wide open. Nicolas Minassian, running in 2nd place with the N°7 Peugeot, played a joker card by choosing to stay out on slicks when the front-running Audi switched to rain tyres. What a start to the year it has been, after winning the first race and leading the second, the morale is high for everyone in the team. Marc [Gene] and I are working well together and we are really looking forward to having Jacques [Villeneuve] joining us at Le Mans. The team did a 24 hours test before Valencia and we completed 3500km, Jacques, Pedro [Lamy] and Sebastien [Bourdais] were driving as it was important they got ready for the big one, Le Mans. With just days to go before the Le Mans 24 Hours preliminary test day on June 3rd, Peugeot's drivers have been busy working out during a week-long fitness training session at La Baule in southern Brittany, France.
